10 reasons why desktops are always better than laptops

If you are going to buy a new computer, you may be wondering whether to choose a laptop or a desktop computer. Desktops offer a lot of power at a lower price, but laptops offer similar performance in a much smaller package.

If you value portability above all else, a laptop is the most logical choice. However, if this factor is not taken into account, it is easy to see that, on the whole, the desktop is a significantly better product than the laptop. Here are 10 reasons why desktops outperform laptops.

1. More Powerful Desktops

Power is the obvious reason to buy a desktop computer. While laptops are getting more and more powerful, there is a limit to what can be achieved when every component has to fit into such a small device. Top performance in desktop only. And if you want a laptop with similar specs to a desktop, you can expect to pay significantly more to get the same performance.

It should be noted that the importance of power depends a lot on what you want to do on the computer. If you just want to browse the web, watch videos, and do word processing, a desktop computer has almost no advantage over a laptop.

2. Desktops cost less
Similarly, desktop computers are significantly cheaper than laptops. The difference is especially noticeable on high-end computers, where a desktop computer costs half as much as a comparable laptop.

This is obviously important if you have a limited budget, but it's also worth considering no matter what you're spending. If you're paying significantly more for the same specs, the price difference can easily help you add more powerful components or peripherals to your PC rig.

3. Desktops Easier to Upgrade
Laptops are very convenient when you want to move them from one place to another, but vice versa when you want to upgrade. If you want to upgrade the desktop, you can simply open the case and add a component. Some desktops even come with pre-designed spaces.

In a laptop, everything is placed close together. This leads to significant limitations on what you can upgrade, while also making the installation really difficult.

4. Desktops Easier to Repair

Laptops can also cause problems when you need repair. When an individual component fails, that component obviously needs to be replaced. On desktop, this is something that can be achieved with minimal technical knowledge.

On a laptop, opening the device without breaking anything can be a challenge, and it's not always possible to replace individual components.

5. Can leave desktop on unlimited
One advantage of desktop computers that many people overlook is that they can be continuously turned on indefinitely. This is useful for people who want to run programs during the night or who want to use their computer as a remote server.

Laptops can also be left on indefinitely, but they are not designed for this purpose and you run the risk of damaging the hardware.

6. Desktops Are Harder To Steal
Laptops are ideal for carrying from place to place, but they also become attractive to thieves for this reason. Desktop computers are often difficult to carry around and are therefore only at risk of being stolen by guys with a certain level of determination.

Laptop theft is a potential problem both when you take it out and when using it in public. It should be noted that you can buy locks to prevent laptop theft, but many of these accessories reduce portability and convenience.

7. Desktops make less noise
Desktop computers are very different from laptops in terms of noise levels. But if you want to buy a desktop that works completely quietly no matter what program you're running, it shouldn't be hard to find. This is because the desktop has enough space to fit as many fans as needed to keep things cool without adding any extra noise.

The fans installed in the laptop are mainly selected according to their size. This causes many laptops to become quite noisy when running resource-intensive applications.

8. Desktops Offer More Ports
Desktop computers have a variety of ports, and this allows you to connect as many peripherals as you want. If a specific port is not available, you can also add one.

Laptops do not offer this level of flexibility. Due to space constraints, there is a limit to the actual number of gates that can be installed. And this can cause problems when you want to add new peripherals.

9. Desktops with larger screens

Laptop screens have improved dramatically in recent years. 17-inch monitors are common these days and they have a lot of pixels so you can comfortably work using multiple tabs and programs open at the same time. Laptops simply cannot compete with desktops in terms of screen size.

Desktop monitors typically start at 20 inches, and most desktop computers today are equipped with significantly larger screens. While you can obviously add an external display to a laptop, this takes away from portability – the reason many people buy laptops.

10. You can build your own desktop
Laptops today are sold with many types of configurations. Most manufacturers offer a variety of options for processors, RAM , and hard drives. At the same time, you can still choose from a specific list provided by the manufacturer.

When choosing a desktop, you can literally build your own PC rig . This provides a much higher level of choice and allows you to design a computer to suit your specific needs. Not everyone needs or even wants this level of customization, but it's a desktop-only option.

Desktop is the best choice, if you don't need portability
Laptops are highly portable and for some people this makes them the obvious choice. If you need a computer that can be used in different locations throughout the week, then the desktop is clearly not the right fit.

The same logic applies if you're short on space. Using a desktop computer requires you to have a desk, while a laptop can be used anywhere.

However, beyond these specific situations, the advantages of desktop computers make them a better choice for most people. They offer the most power for a low price, are easy to upgrade/repair, and come with screens that make most tasks easier.
